For nearly 40 years, Sage has been entertaining audiences with its old-school brand of R&B funk and soul.
The eight-member San Jose-based band will again perform in Manteca later this month at the Manteca Unified Student Trust Dinner-dance.
According to organizer Lindsay Munoz, the third annual event includes Manteca Unified educators, with proceeds supporting worthwhile programs within the school district.
"About three years ago, we re-established the dinner-dance," saod Munoz, who recalled a similar type event hoested many years earlier by area car dealers.
Local educators used that bash as an opportunity to mix and mingle, with the Calla High principal and other employees seeing a need to get employees together, particularly with the staggering growth of the school district in recent years.
Today, the live music is what attracts folks. "Entertainment at most events are conducted with a DJ," Munoz said. "We bring in the band with a full horn and rhythm section."
Sage performs tunes made popular by the likes of Tower of Power, CHicago, Huey Lewis, Paul Simon, Steely Dan coupled with a dash of the Motown sounds.
